Seattle World’s Fair

The World of Art

The fine arts exhibit was the most significant ever assembled on the West Coast. Sixty-one museums from around the world loaned masterpieces by such artists as Michelangelo, Titian, Renoir, Rembrandt, and Homer. Art of the Ancient East and Northwest Coast Indian Art were also on display.  It included three collections unique in quality, especially selected for the World’s Fair. They were “MUSEUM MASTERPIECES,” 70 paintings and sculpture loaned by top United States Museums; “PAINTING AND SCULPTURE SINCE 1950” an international exhibit; “NORTHWEST COAST INDIAN ART” anthropological treasures from American, European and Russian museums. The World of Art had an insurance value of twenty million dollars.
